Chisinau walkabout

We made our first visit to the post office. It is right across the street from our building. It only cost 24 lei to mail 6 postcards to the U.S. This is only $2, which doesn't seem like very much. We'll see how long it takes for them to the U.S. (Or, as they say here, S.A.U.)

We were intending to go to the Archaeology Museum, but when we got to the address I had written down, we realized this was the same as the History Museum that we visited last Saturday. (I think what we were trying to find was the Ethnographic and Nature Museum. Perhaps we can get there on Sunday.)

However, we were able to take a photo of Lupoaica Romei (the Wolf of Rome) and Romulus and Remus that is in front of the History Museum. (It was covered when we arrived last week.)

We did take a look around the National Library (which is across the street). Here is Peggy checking out the card catalog.

Here is one of the many "Chisinau founded in 1436" signs that are all over town. Chisinau may have been founded in 1436, but it dos not feel like an "old" city. My Lonely Planet Guide describes Chisinau as "probably the cosiest of all Soviet-style cities rebuilt after WWII (it was totally destroyed by bombardment and a 1940 earthquake)."
