Istanbul, Not Constantinople
Peggy's school was closed from Thursday through Monday (for teachers to attend a professional development workshop in Kiev), so we decided to head out for another weekend getaway.
We chose Istanbul, which is only about an hour flight from Chisinau.
We loved our hotel, which was situated in the historic peninsula, near Sultanamet Square. When we checked into our room, we were mesmerized by the spectacular view. We were directly looking at the Ayasofya. And to our left, the Blue Mosque. To the right, Topkapki Palace. Breathtaking.
Every morning we enjoyed the sunrise and a delicious breakfast on the top floor, overlooking the Sea of Marmara.
Here is Peggy with one of her bellhop friends. Everywhere we went, people were asking to take pictures of/with Peggy, pinching her cheeks, playing with her pigtails, kissing her. So much affection!
We slept with the windows open, and we were awakened every morning around 5:30 am by calls for prayer from several different mosques.
As we would hear the calls for prayer throughout the day, Peggy would proclaim: "Time to pray!"
