Campaigns Course, lecture 2
The short course on Campaigns in the U.S.: Best Practices met Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of last week and again on Monday of this week.
During our 2nd class, we covered Field and Grassroots Organizing -- developing the field plan, targeting, voter contact, GOTV
As a special treat, I distributed the "Commandments of Effective Organizing" -- which started as 10 Commandments, but has since grown to 20. (Special thanks to Paul Tewes, who put together the initial "Commandments" list, and to my mentors Nick Baldick, Craig Schirmer, Ken Robinson, and Jack Corrigan.) Here are a few of my favorites:
1. IMPROVISE. ADAPT. OVERCOME.
5. "Some" is not a number. "Soon" is not a time.
12. If it isn't written down, it doesn't exist.
13. Numbers win campaigns.
17. Time is the most valuable resource you have.
18. Always Be Closing.
TEAM FIELD!
