monk cells, 15th to 19th centuries
Across from the sanctuary, one can get to these cells where the monks lived.
It must have been so dark down here. I had my flashlight in my purse (as always, sometimes we need it to light the stairway on our way home), which came in handy inside the cellar at the peasant house and inside this cave
The highlight of the trip for most of the kids was visiting these cells -- and seeing a bat! I tried taking pictures of him, but I can't see him in any of the photos. Hmmmmmmmmm. A vampire?!
See also this photo of the floor in these cells. We were looking at all the shells in it. Apparently this used to be a seabed?
