the walk to the Geto-Dacian Citadel

We exited the grounds of the traditional peasant house, and began the ascent to the church of the Birth of the Holy Virgin. This church was built on the "perimeter of the central fortification" of an ancient Greek fortress.

"In the 4th-3rd centuries BC on the central part of the 'Butuceni' promontory was situated the Geto-Dacian fortress." The guide book has illustrations of what researchers thought this complex looked like.

"The fortress has offered up numerous artifacts of Greek origin that, compared to other Geto-Dacian settlements from the Prut-Dniestrian space, denote intensive commercial relations with the ancient world."

(When we got about halfway up these stairs, Peggy wanted to be carried. You would never know that we live in a 4th floor walk up, and walk a few blocks to a playground so she can climb (and swing) for hours. . . Here are her classmates at the top, chanting "Peggy, Peggy, Peggy!" One of her friends came down and held her hand, and she walked the rest of the way to the top. While the situation was frustrating, it was also very sweet to see her friends rally in support.)
