La Multi Ani, part doi

An old friend of mine now owns/runs a lawfirm HQ in Bucharest with an office in Chisinau. This is my friend, Chuck. (We met 17 years ago when he worked for a Member on the House Judiciary Committee and I was working for Senator Kennedy's Judiciary Committee staff; we met at the LOC Law Library in the Madison Bldg)

He and another partner from the Bucharest office have been working with the lawyers in the Chisinau office on a big project. It has been wonderful to re-connect -- and also to meet the other lawyers in the firm.

It turns out that it was not only the Rector's birthday on September 2nd, but also George's birthday (one of the lawyers from the Chisinau office) as well.

I very much enjoyed the birthday dinner celebration at a lovely French restaurant, just blocks from our apartment (and across from the National History Museum, which I may bring Peggy back to on Saturday) I was worried about walking back to the apartment alone at night, but at 9:30 pm, the streets were just as busy as during the day. In fact, there was another free concert on Stefan cel Mare. Lots of people. And lots of police. So there was no reason to worry about walking home at that hour, on the main drag of Stefan cel Mare

Who was with Peggy, you may be wondering. There is a young woman on Peggy's "bus" -- she's at QSI in high school. Peggy just loves her. She is very sweet. (And we are now facebook friends ;-) So she came over to babysit. But, as it was a school night, it didn't seem prudent to stay out too late.

Though brief, the night out with old and new friends was a real birthday treat!

George will be on TV on Sunday, as a commentator about the constitutional referendum. Stimulating conversation re: presidential powers, separation of powers, checks & balances, according to US Constitution. As well as entertaining stories about some inquisitorial trials in Romania.

I should also recommend the Pucari Negro 2003. We will need to send a case of that home.

In the photo, George is sitting next to me on the right. Chuck is across from me.
